The Stübben Neoprene Girth Short without elastic is a short girth in soft, supple neoprene for saddles with long girth straps, such as most dressage saddles. It suits riders who want a straightforward girth without elasticated ends that simply cleans with water after a ride. Neoprene and stainless steel buckles mean little upkeep and a girth ready for everyday use.
About this girth
Stübben designed this girth as an alternative to a leather girth. The neoprene is soft and flexible; according to Stübben it spreads pressure evenly and gives your horse freedom of movement. There is no elastic at the ends: the billets buckle straight on, without an elasticated section in between.
Why choose a girth without elastic? Some riders like to feel exactly how much they are tightening, without an elastic section giving way. A girth with fixed ends gives that direct feel. It does mean you should girth up calmly and evenly and not pull too tight.
The practical advantage of neoprene lies mainly in the care. Sweat, sand and mud wipe off or rinse off with water after training, and the girth then dries in the air. There is no leather on it, so leather care does not come into it. Stübben intends it for daily use, in training and at competitions.
Within the Stübben range at Maddelin, this girth sits alongside the short neoprene girth with elastic. That one has elastic at both ends, a moisture-wicking lining and a D-ring for training aids. For this model without elastic, Stübben does not specify a lining, a D-ring or an anatomical shape.
