The Stübben Hybrid Carbon is the more heavily equipped version of the Hybrid tendon boot for the front legs. Stübben builds in a carbon fibre insert and XRD impact foam, and uses a double shell that moves with the leg. Meant for showjumpers who want a sturdy shell without restricting how freely the leg moves. Available in black and brown.
About these tendon boots
What sets this boot apart from the ordinary Hybrid comes down to two materials. The outer structure contains carbon fibre, which you can see in the photographs as a woven pattern running across the shell. Underneath sits XRD Impact Foam, a foam that takes up part of a blow. Stübben lists both explicitly in the material specification for this model, and not for the ordinary Hybrid.
The second difference is in the build. Stübben describes the Carbon as a double-shell construction: the shell consists of parts that can move in relation to one another, so that the boot follows the movement of the leg instead of working against it. The zones that take the most punishment carry denser materials. The cut-away design lets the leg flex without the edge of the shell getting in the way.
Otherwise the composition Stübben states is the same base as on the ordinary Hybrid: TPU, TPE, polyester, nylon, a little elastane and brass in the fastening, with the XRD impact foam and carbon added. The boot closes with two straps, each with a stud fastening and a row of holes that let you set the tension strap by strap. Stübben asks you to point the fastenings forwards and to place them on the outside of the leg.
Bear the other side in mind. Carbon and a double shell make this boot sturdier, but also stiffer than a soft model, and it covers a large part of the leg. Air can escape through the openings in the shell, but under a closed shell the leg stays warmer than it would without one. The model is made for the front legs; the hind legs call for fetlock boots with their own shape and their own competition rules.
