The Stübben Hybrid is a tendon boot for the front legs, with a hard outer shell over the tendon area and a cut-away shape that follows the line of tendon and fetlock. Stübben developed it for riders who want the firmness of a hard shell combined with the flexibility of a soft boot. You use it for jumping work and in daily training. Available in black and brown, in two sizes.
About these tendon boots
A tendon boot sits on the front leg and covers the back of the cannon and the tendon. The Stübben Hybrid does that with a hard outer shell and raised strike zones at the rear, exactly where a hoof or a pole hits the leg. The shell is cut away along the contour of tendon and fetlock, so the leg can flex without the edge getting in the way.
Ventilation openings run across the whole shell. They let air through, so heat and moisture can escape from under the boot. That is where this model differs from a fully closed boot, which keeps the heat under the shell. Stübben describes the Hybrid itself as light, shock-absorbing and air-permeable.
The build combines TPU for the hard parts with TPE for the supple zones, topped up with polyester and nylon in the textile parts and a little elastane. The brass parts sit in the fastening. That is what Stübben calls hybrid: the firmness of a hard shell together with the flexibility of a soft boot, where a classic soft or leather model usually offers one or the other.
You close the boot with two straps, each with a stud fastening and several holes, so you set the tension strap by strap. Stübben asks you to point the fastenings forwards and lay them on the outside of the leg. That works quickly, but it does mean choosing the right setting: one hole too tight pinches, one hole too loose lets the boot slide down.
The limitations come with it. This model is made for the front legs and does not belong on the hind legs, where fetlock boots with their own shape are the right answer. The hard shell makes the Hybrid firm, but less supple than a felt or soft boot. And although the openings let air through, a leg under a shell simply stays warmer than without one.
