The Veredus Carbon Gel Vento is a tendon boot for the front legs that Veredus states for showjumping and developed together with Marcus Ehning. Above the fetlock lies carbon with a Nitrexgel film behind it; underneath, a double air system lets heat and moisture escape. Available from size S upwards, so for finer cannons as well.
About these tendon boots
The ventilation system is the starting point here. At Veredus, Vento is the line where air drives the design. Heat coming off the leg first passes through a layer of micro-perforated Aerox neoprene and then spreads out into a 3D mesh fabric with air channels. At the bottom of the boot are inlets where fresh air comes in, at the top an outlet grille where it leaves again. The movement is therefore both horizontal and vertical. The practical result: heat and moisture can escape from under the shell instead of staying there. Veredus itself makes no statement about tendons or joints.
What it shields with. The tendon and the front of the fetlock sit under an area of carbon, combined with a shock-absorbing film of Nitrexgel. Carbon is stiff and light, which lets the shell stay thin and spread a knock over a larger surface instead of passing it on at one point. The outer shell itself is built in double density and anatomically shaped, so that it follows the line of the lower leg.
How it stands out within the family. Within our Veredus range, the Carbon Gel Vento sits between two neighbours. The Carbon Gel Absolute has the same ventilation and the same materials, but with a wider carbon and gel area that runs in an inverted Y out over the fetlock. The Olympus Vento has the same ventilation, but shields with EVA instead of carbon and Nitrexgel. So the Carbon Gel Vento is the middle model: full Vento ventilation, carbon and gel, and the only one of the three that also comes in size S.
Fastening and limitations. They close with elastic straps with a quick-release tip. That is quick, even with gloves on, and you can set the tension of the straps per horse. Two things to bear in mind. This is a front leg model: behind, a fetlock boot belongs, with a different shape and a shorter shell. And a closed boot with a hard shell always holds in more heat than an open working boot, ventilation or not, so take it off after work.
Competition. The current international jumping rules set no requirements as to shape for tendon boots on the front legs. The only hard limit is weight: everything worn together on one leg may weigh no more than 500 grams, wet included. Veredus does not state the weight per boot. In the international dressage arena boots are forbidden and must be off before you ride into the space around the competition arena.
